CE&P Charitable Support

Charitable contributions are restricted to US-based nonprofits only. For all requests, proof of tax-exempt status is required as follows:

  • US based organizations
    • IRS determination letter of 501(c)(3) status
    • W-9 form dated not more than one year ago

Guidelines for Community Engagement & Partnership Support

Funding cannot be used to support activities or events that have already occurred or that are only funded by GBT. Unless otherwise specified, the following are outside the scope of GBT's Community Engagement & Partnership funding program:

  • Funding or salaries for individuals
  • Capital projects
  • Fee for Service Arrangements (including Honoraria)
  • Alcohol
  • Personal Travel
  • Professional Development (e.g., individual leadership training)
  • Tuition fees or Scholarships
  • Activities hosted at lavish venues or sporting events
  • Activities outside of GBT's therapeutic areas of interest

Follow these steps to submit a funding request:

  1. Confirm your organization’s eligibility
    Verify whether your organization is eligible to submit a funding request.

  2. Sign in or create an account
    An account is required to access GBT's funding request system. Click here to create an account. Be sure to save your login information for future requests

  3. Complete online request
    Complete your funding request via our funding request system. Requests must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the desired start date of the program/activity/initiative for which you seek support.

  4. Review and submit your application
    Review your request thoroughly for accuracy and completeness before submitting it for funding consideration. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of a submitted request to the primary and secondary contacts listed in the request.

Below are answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

What is the deadline for submitting a request?

  • Requests for sponsorships, charitable contributions, and grants must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the desired start date of the program/activity/initiative for which you seek support.

What types of funding are available?

  • Charitable Contributions:
    • GBT approves a limited number of charitable contribution requests to US-based nonprofits aimed at diversity in health-related disparities each year.
  • CE&P Grants:
    • Support for initiatives aimed at sickle cell disease education and awareness or improved access to care that are longer-term in nature or have a defined funding period.
      • Innovative Programs: Support for projects or programs aimed innovative approaches to education and awareness or data/surveillance initiatives.
  • Corporate Sponsorships and Exhibits:
    • Support for sickle cell disease education and awareness activities hosted by patient advocacy or community-based organizations that may include various levels of support opportunities (e.g. bronze, silver, gold, etc.). Examples of sponsorships include:​
      • Corporate/Industry Council or membership: Annual dues to support a US-based tax-exempt, nonprofit organization. The recipient organization may recognize sponsors via its activities, programs, or special events.
      • Disease education and awareness activities:  Support for social media campaigns, webinars and non-web-based activities aimed at SCD education and awareness.​
      • Fundraiser: A social function held for the purpose of raising money in support of SCD education and awareness (e.g., annual gala or walk, run and ride events).
      • Policy and advocacy activities: Support for activities that focus on legislative policy development, advocacy and engagement with policymakers at the federal and state levels regarding issues of importance to people living with sickle cell disease as well as caregivers.
      • SCD education and awareness meeting: Educational conferences, symposia or meetings aimed at SCD patients, caregivers, advocates, policy makers, or the general public.

How are requests submitted?

  • Requests must be submitted online via this portal. First time applicants will be required to create an account along with a username and password.

Can GBT be the only funder of my program?

  • No, GBT cannot be the only funder of any program.

How long do funding decisions take?

  • Funding decisions are communicated via email within 60 days from receipt of a completed request.

What is the payment process?

  • If a funding request is approved, a signed letter of agreement outlining the terms and conditions of funding is required prior to the release of funds. Payment/s will be issued per the terms specified in the fully executed agreement.

If my request was not accepted can I submit requests in the future?

  • If a funding request is not accepted, your organization may apply for future funding. All requests that meet GBT funding eligibility requirements will be reviewed.

How do I check the status of my request?

  • To check the status of an request, login to your account and select My Submissions.

Can I start an application and come back later to finish it?

  • If you are unable to complete a request for any reason, you have the ability to save your work and login at a later time to complete it.
